Which one should I use?

Both run the same License Server with the same API, so the choice is about where the data and the deployment live, not about what the software can do.

Self-host if you want licenses on infrastructure you control, with no usage limits and your own branding. Go hosted if you'd rather have an API key in minutes and let Casazium run the server; the hosted console keeps Casazium's branding. The hosted tier docs cover the details.

The release limit

Software Distribution (license-gated release downloads and signed update checks) allows up to 500 published releases per product, channel and platform combination. It's an anti-abuse ceiling, it applies the same way self-hosted and hosted, and it doesn't change with your plan. The Software Distribution docs explain how it works.
